Opera Theater's 2009-2010 Season

A Uniquely American Season—Plus a Sendak Spectacular!

Celebrate what makes America so special—its creativity, its diversity, its inclusivity—with three works, each made (or re-made!) in America, and each utterly different. In addition, immerse yourself in Maurice Sendak’s enchanting sets for Brundibár, a heartwarming tale of good versus evil. Enjoy edgy classic jazz with Duke Ellington’s Beggar’s Holiday, the all-American version of The Threepenny Opera. Bask with your Valentine in the rich romantic world of Italo Montemezzi amid the splendors of Carnegie Museum of Art’s Hall of Sculpture. Rediscover the quintessential music of the American experience with Stephen Foster’s unforgettable melodies in a brand new music drama, Beautiful Dreamers.

This season, in partnership with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12, MCG Jazz, the Carnegie Museum of Art, and Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre, Opera Theater is taking opera out of the opera hall and into the community.

Most importantly, you get to experience three uniquely American mainstage productions—plus a unique opera designed by Maurice Sendak—that will convince you that great opera doesn’t have to be grand to be good. Subscribe now to guarantee your seat at a season’s worth of one-of-a-kind productions that you won’t see anywhere else. Performances do sell-out, so don’t wait!
