Using unconventional casting and groundbreaking staging, The Classical Theatre of Harlem continues its exploration of Shakespeare with a daring production of Romeo & Juliet. As The New York Times states: "That giant-killer of a company… makes a habit of locating the most challenging works in the canon and knocking them off as if with a slingshot."

"Invigorating the stage with that elusive thing called joy" (New York Times), Spirit of Uganda presents riveting programs of music and dance for audiences of all ages. To the melodic tones of standing drums, with dramatic choreography, bright, layered rhythms, and gorgeous call-and-response vocals, a vibrant cast of performers, aged 8-18, oscillates between ferocity and softness as they bring to life the sounds and movements of East Africa. With Artistic Director Peter Kasule serving as Master of Ceremonies, Spirit of Uganda celebrates the cultural roots and new offshoots of this lush and diverse nation.

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has traveled worldwide spreading their mission to nurture and perpetuate the art form of New Orleans Jazz. Whether performing at Carnegie Hall or Lincoln Center, this music embodies a joyful, timeless spirit. Under the auspices of current director, Ben Jaffe, Preservation Hall continues with a deep reverence and consciousness of its greatest attributes in the modern day.

About the School Day Matinee Series

  • The 2007 / 2008 School Day Matinee Series is appropriate for various ages and grade levels. Please consult this newsletter for specific show information.
  • Art Resource guides are available for presentations online at www.pgharts.org/education.
  • All seats are $7.50 each, with the exception of Windmill Performing Arts: The Green Sheep, which is $10.00
  • No refunds will be issued unless The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust cancels the performance.
  • Don’t forget to include teachers and chaperones along with the students when indicating the total number of seats.
  • Seating is general admission. Groups are seated in order of arrival.

Theater Etiquette

  • Students should dress appropriately. Shorts, baseball hats, skullcaps and athletic gear are not appropriate attire for theater.
  • All chaperones are to stay with their groups throughout the entire performance. Chaperones should be seated so that they may see all the children. Van and bus drivers should not be considered chaperones.
  • Your group must be seated at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the performance. Should your group arrive late, it may be necessary to remain in the lobby until the ushers feel it is appropriate to seat your group.
  • Do not bring food or drinks into the theatre.
  • Students should be courteous patrons. No talking or whispering during the performance.
  • Keep your feet on the floor, not on the seat or balcony in front of you. Do not switch seats.
  • No backpacks, book bags, CD players, iPods or electronic games are permitted in theaters.
  • Electronic watches, pagers and cellular phones must be turned off.
  • Bathroom breaks should take place before the performance or during intermission.
